The Automóvel Clube de Portugal (ACP) and nine municipalities in the Central region have formalised a partnership to host another edition of the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, reinforcing the strategic importance of the event for the region.

The agreement, signed in Figueira da Foz, involves local authorities along the rally route and aims to enhance the economic, tourism and media impact of one of the most iconic rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).

The Mayor of Figueira da Foz, Pedro Santana Lopes, highlighted the municipality’s long-standing connection to the event and its importance in promoting the area.

“There is a very strong connection between Figueira and this event that goes back decades,” he said, adding that the rally “allows Figueira to fulfil its ambition of hosting top-level events in terms of quality and credibility.”

Beyond its sporting dimension, the mayor also emphasised the event’s role in attracting visitors and new residents.

“During the Rally, we promote the advantages of spending holidays or living in Figueira da Foz,” he said, pointing to the municipality’s recent population growth.

The President of the ACP, Carlos Barbosa, highlighted the importance of the involvement of local authorities and the tourism sector in making the event possible.

“24 hours after the Rally finishes, there is not a single piece of paper or bottle left on the ground,” he assured, referring to the work of teams dedicated to cleaning and environmental management.

With thousands of spectators expected, the Vodafone Rally de Portugal once again establishes itself as a driver of regional promotion, bringing together sport, tourism and local development.

“Without the support of the municipalities, the Rally would not be possible, nor without Turismo de Portugal.”

He also underlined the event’s organisational capacity, particularly in terms of sustainability.
