The National Republican Guard (GNR) will implement Operation “WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal 2025” between 14 and 18 May to ensure safety and the smooth running of the competition. This operation aims to maintain public order, control spectator access to designated viewing zones, restrict traffic on Special Stages, and ensure fluidity in access roads, emergency routes, and liaison sections between stages.
Organisation and Operational Planning
The WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal, part of the FIA World Rally Championship calendar, will take place from 15 to 18 May, covering regions in Central and Northern Portugal, including the districts of Coimbra, Viseu, Aveiro, Porto, Braga, Viana do Castelo, and Vila Real.
Given the complexity of the event and the high expected turnout, the GNR will deploy a multidisciplinary operational unit with integrated coordination across its various divisions. The operation will unfold in two phases:
- Phase 1 (14 May): Closure of road sections corresponding to rally stages, control of vehicle and spectator access, and final preparation of the operational deployment.
- Phase 2 (15 to 18 May): Implementation of safety measures during the event, including restriction of unauthorised vehicle circulation, confinement of spectators to designated safe zones, and prevention of access to restricted areas.
Safety Recommendations for Spectators
To ensure the safety of all involved – including spectators, participants, organisers, and the general public – the GNR stresses the importance of adhering to the following safety rules:
- Stay exclusively in clearly marked spectator zones.
- Follow the instructions of GNR officers at all times.
- In the event of an accident, do not approach the special stages and do not interfere with the vehicles involved.
