WRC Fafe Rally Sprint with a 29 drivers entry list

24 março 2013

After last year’s success upon its debut, the WRC Fafe Rally Sprint is back for more, once again as an appetizer for the Vodafone Rally de Portugal. With it are also back some of the most well-known names of the World Rally Championship, who couldn’t say no to the call, just like some of the national rallying references.
Held on Saturday, Arpil 6th, the competition will see the likes of Mikko Hirvonen (Citroën DS3 WRC), Qatar World Rally Team’s Nasser Al Attiya and Thierry Neuville (both in Ford Fiesta RS WRC) ready for a second round at the amazing last 6 km of the Fafe/Lameirinha Special Stage. Last year’s winner of the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, Mads Østberg, and his team-mate on the Qatar M-Sport World Team, Evgeny Novikov, also said yes to the call.
But that is not all regarding the WRC armada. Volkswagen Motorsport will be represented by two drivers of their two official teams, the clear leader of the WRC and winner of the last two rounds in Sweden and Mexico, Sébastien Ogier, and Andreas Mikkelsen. Also present will be Martin Prokok with the Jipocar Czech National Team’s Ford Fiesta RS WRC. The former Formula One driver Rubert Kubica is also on the list and will be returning to the competition behind the wheel of a Citroën DS3 RRC.
Also quite respectable is the national representation. The National Champion Ricardo Moura (Mitsubishi Evo IX), runner-up Miguel J. Barbosa (Mitsubishi Evo IX), Pedro Meireles (Skoda Fabia S2000), José Pedro Fontes and Miguel Barbosa sharing a Subaru Impreza WRX STI and the unforgettable former National Champions Fernando Peres (Ford Escort RS Cosworth) and Adruzilo Lopes (Subaru Impreza WRX STI).
The emotions of rallying will be back at one of the world’s rally cathedrals on April 6th for the second edition of the WRC Fafe Rally Sprint, in which drivers and cars will have to face three passages through the 6.34 km of the Fafe/Lameirinha stage, the first one starting at 14h20, and the last one at 17h10.
